The first time I heard Reaul's latest album, Casino
Heart, I gave myself a signpost: rock. An
Indianapolis based rock band, Reaul is on their way to making
music history. Already playing along side some of the greatest
rock bands, Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance (just to name a few)
Réaul is definitely touching 'hearts' around the nation.
A five song album, Casino Heart reveals that
perpetual rock motion we're all used to. Straight forward rock/pop
tags, that stinging lead vocal; however, this album's thickly dug
guitar grooves and clever lyrics are what stuck with me. The
debut song My Casino Heart is edgy, verbose,
and explicitly internalized. "All my chips are in, roll the
dice and watch me burn." Although we've seen many artists
compare love to poker (Gaga 'Poker Face' and Jim Eat World 'Big
Casino') My Casino Heart serves up this concept
in more unprocessed light. The song's perpetual motion, rich rock
tones, and internalized grooves give narrative to a lover's amble
vulnerability.
Although touching and moody, My Casino Heart
is just one of the great songs on this album. Forever
Starts Tonight is melodic and beautiful. Just when you
think you're listening to another Nickelback
album, Forever Starts Tonight takes you
away. This song has a tendency to drift off and then quickly
bring you back to the hook. Roughly a sixteen minute album, Reaul
definitely delivers. I highly recommend sinking your listening ears
into Casino Heart.
